Boardman Community Baseball – Who Are We?

Boardman Community Baseball is a 501(C)3 non-profit corporation. We are governed by a set of by-laws and constitution, and run by elected league officers and an elected Board of Directors. The officers for the 2013 season are Tony Tarantino– President, Chad Miller– Vice President, Rick Schafer – Treasurer, Greg Krieger – Secretary and Tim Kaple - Past President. Boardman Community Baseball is affiliated with Little League Baseball International, operating two leagues, Boardman Community Little League East and Boardman Community Little League West. Boardman Community Baseball is also affiliated with Pony Baseball and Softball through our Pony and Colt League programs. The rules and regulations of the affiliated organizations are used to guide our baseball and softball programs.

The Fields of Dreams at 410 McClurg Road is PRIVATELY owned by Boardman Community Baseball. We receive no federal, state or township dollars to operate, maintain or upgrade our facility. The complex was built through the generous donations of individual benefactors, local businesses, service organizations and individual families in Boardman. The maintenance, equipment and upgrades at the Fields of Dreams are financed through continued donations, league fundraisers and outside tournaments sponsored by Boardman Community Baseball. We have one full-time employee (32 hours/week) and five part-time student employees during the season who maintain the fields.

Through fundraising and the pursuit of grant monies, we are able to make upgrades at the complex. Recently completed projects include walking paths connecting each end of the complex, Colt scorebox and scoreboard, and bleacher construction for seating on all fields. In 2006, at a cost of $18,000.00, we completed the addition of permanent bathrooms on the satellite concession stand serving the girls softball fields and the upper minor quad. During the fall of 2006 we refurbished eleven (11) of our twenty (20) fields at the cost of over $25,000.00. During Memorial Day weekend 2007 we completed a paving project of our East Parking lot at a cost of $72,000.00. During the fall of 2007 we refurbished our Colt Infield, spending $8000.00 and started construction of dugouts on fields M-1, M-3, M-6 and M-8. Construction should be completed by the start of the 2008 season. Total cost to date is $34,000.00. We hope to raise the money to complete dugouts on M-2 and M-4 before the season starts. Dugout sponsorships and donations are being accepted. Each set of dugouts costs $8,000.00. And through a donation by Jack Mayo and a grant from the J. Ford Crandall Foundation we have added field lights to the Jack Mayo field (L-2) at a cost totaling $62,000.00. During 2007 and 2008 we completed the construction of dugouts on the Minor Fields at a cost of $48,000.00.

Boardman Community Baseball and the Fields of Dreams is an adult volunteer work project, constructed, supervised and assisted by parents and other caring adults who desire to make its benefits extend to the children of Boardman playing baseball and softball. Your time and financial help, if possible, are greatly appreciated.  Contact any league officer or Board Member to help continue our mission of providing a wholesome, healthy activity for children using the ball field as a classroom to instill discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, fair play and a set of values to guide them into adulthood and, hopefully, responsible citizenship.  To that task we are dedicated.  You may contact the league at 330-758-2123.
